Evaluations– mainly given for insurance purposes. An officially written letter would be charged at £30.00 Rugstore has to see the Carpet or Kilim in order to evaluate the details correctly. If all is available then digital photographs will also be taken and given with the letter. This whole procedure is very much part of our legal requirement to cover ourselves against fraudulent claims.
Anti-slip Underlay
Anti-slip
Anti-slip
greatly helps to stop carpets or Kilims from moving; whether they are on wood, marble, tile, stone or indeed on a fitted carpet. The underlay also assists in making the piece a little softer by cushioning and thus also protecting the piece.
Availability – we generally provide underlay on a roll that is 1.20cm or 2.00 wide. It is of course better to use one complete piece of underlay for the whole rug in question and in this instance it would have to be sourced from our supplier. Please enquire with regards size and pricing.
We buy old rugs even if they are damaged. You may have a new or old carpet or Kilim that you do not want. Whether it is new or old / dirty & damaged – why not bring it in to us and we will have a look at it.

Wall Hanging
if you have a Kilim, tapestry or other flat weave or even a carpet that you would like to hang on the wall then we can do this for you.
The question most people ask is how should the piece be held while it’s hanging? By nailing it? Stapling it? Using some sort of clips? Well you could use all of those methods as long as the nails or staples are fine ones.
However, the method we have found best is to stitch small strips of a strong backing material near the top part on the backside of the piece. This allows an attractive wooden pole to be passed through, where it then can be fixed to the wall much like a ‘curtain pole’ fixture.

(For woolen rugs) The beauty and life of handmade rugs depend largely on cleanliness and care. Handmade rugs should be washed regularly every three to five years depending on the use and the amount of traffic they bear. The best method is to get them cleaned when they look soiled. WARNING Never clean handmade rugs chemically or by steam. They remove the natural oils and cause the material to become brittle and wear more rapidly. Do not wash handmade rugs in a machine. Do not wring out or squeeze a handmade rug. Do not, unless absolutely necessary, submerge a handmade rug in water. Surface cleaning is usually all that is required. The best way to clean the whole rug is for it to be washed using cold water and a mild detergent. This should be done by a competent cleaning expert and should not be tried at home.

Damaged Oriental rugs and carpets can be repaired to give you many more years of use and pleasure. However it is important that repairs are undertaken by experts with the required special skills so that an  effective repair is carried out depending on the extent of the damage and the age of the rug.

We have been in the business of repairing  Oriental rugs of all types for over 20 years and have the experience to advise you as to the best course of action.

Repairing rugs is a highly skilled craft that is comparable in technique and experience with the rug manufacturing process. For example to repair a hole requires that a compatible yarn is found to match that of the surrounding rug so that the touch and feel of the repair is the same as that of the rest of the rug. The colour or colours of the yarn to repair the hole must be carefully selected so that it merges with the colours around it. The frayed yarn surrounding the hole must be dealt with depending on the extent of the damage,  and finally the hole must be woven by hand using the appropriate knot so that it is practically invisible to the naked eye.

One should be aware that it is always advisable to fix a damaged or worn rug as soon as possible so that further damage can be averted. This  ensures  a better quality repair at a lower cost as well as retaining or increasing the value of the rug.

In cases where the rug is old (over  50 years) and valuable we will advise you what repairs should be done to increase its value and at the same time improve its appearance and usability.

We use handspun wool & tailor made vegetable dyes individually mixed for color matching to suit the needs of the rugs, and leading industry tools to handle your request with the up most effectiveness at affordable prices.
